Day 4: The results are in!

After a video intro to the nominees for our category, Best New Retail Concept, they announced the winner....  The Store at Soho House Berlin.

Well done!  So while CUFFS didn't win, we were just happy to have been nominated along with such a cool group of nominees, and proud to be a Hong Kong company on the world stage.

After the ceremony was drinks and mingling in the ballroom.  We met some amazing and interesting people- publicists, an author, the WGSN team, fashion students.

What an amazing experience to have been part of this event.  Thanks to all our friends and customers for your support!

Day 4: Awards Day

And finally its the big day. This year's event is being held at 8 Northumberland Ave, a hip event space in Central London.  First thing that happens is we have our pictures taken by at least a dozen photographers.

Next up champagne and canapes. Here I am in a white tux with floral print trim, a piece from our recent collection.

After mingling with some of our fellow nominees, the ceremony starts.  Thats the BBC's Fearne Cotton.

Day 3: Cool-hunting and sourcing

With London being one of the world's fashion capitals, no trip could be complete without visiting some of the city's coolest shops.  Carnaby Street is interesting as always, with an excellent selection of menswear shops including Barbour, Filson, Shinola Detroit and Other Shop.  Oxford Circus is another must see with some brand new flagship stores.

Day 2: Visit to Huntsman tailor, Savile Row

Today I had the amazing privilege of touring Huntsman, the legendary tailor at 11 Savile Row.  Founded in 1849, Huntsman is known for their impeccable tailoring and distinctive house style. Many of you will have seen their shop before- the movie Kingsman was filmed on their premises.

More on this later!

Day 1: Arrival and first sourcing trip

Arrived and loving our sweet London pad. Check out that view!

Next stop find caffeine. Thankfully nearby is a cool cafe/coworking spot.

After refueling and getting my bearings, it's off to do some sourcing. A prime location to do this is the area around Berwick Street.  This trendy area is home to hip boutiques and also several fabric vendors and "haberdashers".

Sourcing fabrics and other nice things

Britain has a an illustrious position in the history of textiles and fabric.  In the 18th century Lancashire, innovations in cotton weaving led to the creation the first modern factories, which in turn sparked the start of the Industrial Revolution. Elsewhere, West Yorkshire was also becoming the wool capital of the world.

Today Britain is still a well known producer of high quality fabrics and we will be visiting some well known fabric suppliers to see if we can bring back some beautiful fabrics, buttons, trims etc for our customers.  Stay tuned!

Road to London: WGSN Futures Awards

In March of 2016, we received a phone call from the London offices of WGSN, a global trend forecaster, informing us that CUFFS had been nominated for a WGSN Futures Award, under the "Best New Retail Concept" category!  After making it into the final four, we were invited to attend the awards ceremony in London, to be held on May 26th 2016.

This blog series is going to document our trip to the UK, the awards ceremony and the other cool things we have planned while we are in London!
